Promotes Sara Hammond to Chief Financial Officer

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians today announced Dr. Mihaela Gugiu as the organization’s first-ever Chief Assessment Officer. In a move designed to better align the National Registry with the testing and certification industry, Dr. Gugiu will oversee the Examinations and Psychometrics team as well as the Certification team.

“Dr. Gugiu brings an air of optimism and growth to our organization because of her wealth of knowledge from previous roles with the National Registry and also because of her innovation and a keen awareness of what we need to do to make positive transformations well into the future,” said Bill Seifarth, chief executive officer and executive director of the National Registry. “I have strived to create a chief assessment officer for our organization, and I am thrilled to see Dr. Gugiu continue to shape and transform the nation’s EMS certification organization.”

Before being named the Chief Assessment Officer, Dr. Gugiu served as the Director of Psychometrics and Analytics, ensuring that all examinations, scores and related materials produced by the National Registry met acceptable standards under public and professional scrutiny. She holds a Ph.D. from Western Michigan University.

As part of the announcement, Seifarth also named Sara Hammond as the National Registry’s new Chief Financial Officer.

Hammond, a Certified Public Accountant, previously the National Registry’s controller, has been with the organization for more than 17 years. She began her career at The Registry in 2005 as a temporary data entry clerk and has been impactful at every stage of her career.  Hammond has managed the organization's finances for many years, improved the Registry’s budget planning processes and has been responsible for many more internal enhancements.

“The National Registry is thankful for leaders like Lindsey Durham and Mark Terry who led the organization through a period of substantial change and growth, even during a global pandemic,” said Seifarth. “I am grateful for the steadfast support and leadership, and in their abilities to develop the future leaders we are now welcoming them into their new roles.”
